APPLYING FOR A CITY OF ROCKFORD BALLOT ONLINE
If you are a qualified voter, you may vote by mail. (A qualified voter is registered from the address of current residence with the name currently used): Vote by mail applications are available 90 days before each election.
Persons who register to vote by mail are required to show ID with current name and address the first time they vote in the jurisdiction.
A registered voter may request an application for a Vote By Mail ballot no less than 5 days prior to the date of the election. Upon receipt of the completed and signed application in the office of the election authority, a ballot will be mailed to the address requested. Sufficient time must be allowed for the voter to receive, sign and return the application no later than the Thursday before the election. The ballot must be received, voted and postmarked for return to the Board of Elections no later than Midnight the day of the election. All ballots postmarked by Midnight; will be counted if received within 14 days of the election.
No Vote by Mail ballots will be mailed to voters after Thursday, February 20, 2025. You may call our office at 815-987-5750 for alternate voting options after this date.

Ballot Envelope
If you are mailing your ballot or delivering it yourself, and no one helped you complete the ballot, you only need to complete the signature and date fields. pictured below with the number 3.
If someone else is returning your ballot for you, complete sections 1 and 3.
If someone assisted you with completing your ballot, complete sections 2 and 3.
Returning your ballot
When your vote by mail ballot is mailed to you it will include a return envelope. To return your ballot:
- Complete the information on your ballot envelope.
- Place your ballot in the envelope.
- Seal the envelope.
To follow the status of your ballot, retain your stub and visit rockfordilvbmtracking.com and enter your ballot ID or use a smartphone to scan the QR code on the ballot stub.
Mailing Your Ballot: Place a First Class stamp on the envelope and get it to the US Postal Service for delivery to us. Ballots must be postmarked by February 25 and received by March 11.
Use a Dropbox: Drop your completed envelope in our secure dropbox at 301 S. 6th Street.
